Getting big again

Scout has been riding bareback, which I have all the kids do when they first start. Today we tried the saddle. She rode for 15 minutes, through the woods and then out to the neighborhood next door and back. he sits up that straight the whole time.

As soon as she finished her ride on Tonto we went for a ride together on Tink. She has been riding a couple times a week. She helps with everything, leading Tonto, brushing, putting pad and helmet and brush away.

This cute tiny tush doesn't wear diapers anymore!! This was the only pair of pants that fit her, I had to unpack her baby clothes to find some that will stay up. Yesterday she wore a 2T shirt and size 3-6 months capri's (that fit perfectly!).

Big girl

Things are happening
fast for Scout. I expect it will be this way for the next couple years. Potty training is going great. She wears her diaper at night and only occasionally during the day (grocery store comes to mind). We have found that she can't wear panties since she must feel like it is a diaper and is likely to pee in it. So, she wears a dress everyday and bare bottomed. If we are in the house she never has an accident. She will go to the potty on her own and use it. If we are outside she has an occasional accident but rarely now. We carry the potty in the car and driving anywhere takes much longer with the added in "potty" stops on the side of the road!! She even woke up one night at 4 am to go potty.

She has been parroting words for awhile now but yesterday she started using her words to ask for things. Instead of pointing at the fridge and chirping and pointing she just pointed and said "milk". She also said "cantaloupe", "up", "down", "out", "outside", "walk", "whoa", "brush", "ride", "mum mum", "daddy", "Zach", "katy", "kara", "mi mi", "ouse", "yes", "silly".

Hold on to your hats I think the next two years are going to be fast paced!!

Itsy-Bitsy

When Scout started using the potty we started singing "the itsy bitsy spider"  to help her to stay on the potty longer. It is now routine for her to tap her fingers together and say "itsy" to get us singing.

Today Scout was with Dawn shopping, suddenly Scout says "itsy, itsy". Dawn rushes to the potty chair aisle and takes one into the bathroom. Dawn starts singing and Scout pees in the potty instead of her diaper!!!! The power of communication and awareness! You go girls!!

Unschoolers Rock the Campground

Last weekend, after leaving Lake George, we headed for Pinewood Lodge camp ground in Plymouth. There was an unschoolers camping trip and we wanted to join in. We had a blast and meet some really great people. Some came from Canada, NY , CT and MA. Scout was in her element, living outside!

We brought her potty along and things progressed there really well. Yesterday she used the potty exclusively all day long, no accidents at all!!! As lone as we are home in the house she has it down pat. She even wakes up dry in the morning frequently.

Potty training!

We have been using the potty, for about a month, as a place for Scout to sit while she brushes her teeth. The goal was to make the potty a place she liked and felt comfortable. She usually pees in the morning after waking up so we have been letting her be naked as we got ready in the morning. She likes to copy our morning routines and also use this as an opportunity to instill some good habits. She like to shower, brush AND floss and then put her sunscreen on.

On July 5th, while brushing her teeth she peed in the potty!!! Of course, we had a big celebration and we were all home to join in and congratulate her. From here on we kept a sun dress on her and let here keep the diaper off all day. She has used her potty, at least once, each day since. On the second day she came to me once to let me know she needed to go. On the third night she asked to take her diaper off to go potty. Last night she went poop in the potty while brushing her teeth after a shower!

She is 18 months old.
