Smithsonian

We made a mad dash to Washington to attend a good friends retirement party from the Air Force. We drove thru the night, like always, so Scout could sleep for the trip. After the party we spent a few hours at the Natural History Museum before heading home. All Smithsonian museums are free. You can easily spend a week exploring all of them...a great trip idea for the spring when the cheery blossoms are blooming!

We have recently been playing with a bucket of dinosaurs so it was really cool to be able to see the real thing.

This was awesome! A coral reek that was crochet. It was started by a math teacher who was teaching her students about hyperbolic . It grew into this massive display created by many volunteers. It was just beautiful. A great winter project!

Of course we spent a lot of time at the animal displays. They had very interesting mounts for the displays. It showed a wide variety of animals doing their natural behaviors, not just standing their posed.

The primitive man display was so interesting. We ran out of time before we finished this...we will definitely come back.

Scout was fascinated with these life size statues. These were the actual size, about 3 feet for adults. A small culture that lived on a remote island. Of course, they were wiped out once discovered. They were prey for monitors (lizards) too!

It was a great family time....we cherish these times since we know Zach will leave us soon.
